I just bought my first car/bike. How do I get it insured?

First off, congratulations! This is a big milestone and one you should be very proud of (it’s not every day your buy your first car or bike). As you may have guessed, the next step is making sure you are adequately covered for anything unexpected. Here are 4 simple steps to getting the coverage you need before you hit the open road.

1. Start by calling an insurance representative to get a quote.
If you’re considering BF&M as an option, for example, you can contact a representative at 441-295-5566. You will be asked a few questions about your driving record and your new car or bike, and in about 20 minutes you’ll be ready to roll.

2. Have the proper documentation ready (if you’re buying motor insurance).
When purchasing motor insurance, make sure you have your vehicle registration, driver’s license, any driver education programme certification information, and you vehicle details – vehicle identification number, lien holder name, payment information, etc.

3. Decide how much/what type of coverage you need.
Everyone’s insurance needs are different, so make sure you know what specifics you need covered and how much you are willing to spend. You should also decide if you want to go with a higher deductible to lower your premium, or have a lower deductible but pay a lower monthly or annual premium. There's no right or wrong answer, it’s all personal preference.

4. Keep being a good driver.
At BF&M, we offer discounts to drivers that are claim and infraction-free for extended periods of time. The longer you have a clean driving record, the more you save on your premium (to the tune of up to 65% for vehicles and 20% for cycles).
