Taking Care of Damage to Your Contents

Upholstery or Carpet Wet

  • Ensure that source of leak is repaired (i.e. board broken window or door).
  • Blot as much of water as you can. We will come by to inspect.
  • Contact carpet-cleaning company to arrange cleaning.
  • Bring us the bill.

Wet Furniture

  • Blot up as much water as possible. We will be by to inspect. Do NOT use heaters or blow-dryers as they may cause further damage.
  • Cover any exposed furniture with tarps, blankets or plastic sheeting.
  • Contact a furniture repair company for repairs to prevent warping and splitting.
  • Bring us the bill.

Damaged Electronic Equipment

  • Unplug immediately.
  • Blot up as much water as possible. Bring item to us for inspection. If this is not possible, we will be by to inspect.
  • Do NOT use heaters or blow-dryers as they may cause further damage.
  • Arrange for repair estimate and bring it to us. Loss adjuster will advise whether policy will cover repair or replacement of damaged item.
  • Do not use items exposed to water until checked by a technician.

Flood

  • Get rid of as much of the flooding water as you can immediately.
  • Take as much furniture and furnishings off the floor and secure it, if possible.
  • For those items that are not moveable, such as heavy cabinets, try to protect the exposed areas from the water with towels, sheets, blankets that can be easily washed later.

General

If there is a large hurricane, it may be sometime before we can inspect the damage. Do not wait! Do whatever is reasonable to prevent further damage. Keep receipts if possible of any costs you incur.

Remember we will pay for repairs or replacement but not any improvements.
